The goal of the DIAD_NFC project is to enable the dynamic individual remote deployment and removal of independent NFC applications into the mobile handset and onto the secure element in it in such a way that the new or removed applications do not have any effects on the individual operation of the other already available applications in the handsets, however it will be possible to establish interaction between the new and old applications and also to jointly manage them.
Prototype of the technical platform and supporting service environment will be implemented and trialed that fulfills the above requirements.
The results of the project will enable the consortium members either as service operators or as technology providers to be among the first ones even internationally to offer dynamic application distribution capability for NFC operations. The novelty of the planned solution will also provide opportunities for establishing international IP rights on key components of the technical architecture.
The users presently have no choice in defining which NFC services and in what configuration they would prefer. These conditions are posing severe limitations on the utilization, and exploitation capacity of NFC, as the static nature of the available service portfolio drastically reduces the commercial potential of the new technology and the services based on it. None of the present NFC application environments is supporting dynamic application distribution and management. DIAD_NFC's results will make it possible for both the users and their service providers to add or delete new NFC service applications in the wallet whenever they wish to, thus greatly increasing customer appeal, flexibility, usability and economic potential of the NFC services.
Following the project the consortium partners will turn the prototype architecture into a commercial product and will either operate the infrastructure as 3rd party outsourced service or will sell the technical solution for in-house operation to mobile network operators and larger service providers.
